Rolls-Royce has announced plans to invest more than £30m ($42m) in its Washington, UK site to create a new 8000m² facility to manufacture discs for in-service engines.

The Fleet Support plant will have the capacity to produce more than 1,500 fan and turbine discs a year for engines including the Trent 500, Trent 800 and the RB211.

The facility is expected to open in 2018 and will add to the OEM’s production capabilities in Washington after the opening of its disc manufacturing centre in June 2014.

Mike Mosley, Rolls-Royce’s chief operating officer – supply chain, said: “Our further investment in Washington demonstrates our continued commitment to developing innovative technology and lean facilities, which will improve performance and drive profitability for our business.”
